Olpc update activities

And the XO reflashes more than twice as quickly now:. The result is that installation time is now more than twice as quick. While there was no A huge thanks to everyone who has helped with developing and testing this release! It has a number of performance and other improvements , including 3G modem and connection sharing. This version has one major difference from the main OS: it does not offer a traditional Linux desktop as an alternative to Sugar. Some students managed to delete their Sugar home directories from within their Gnome desktop, making work with Sugar difficult until they had reinstalled it.

As a result, some teachers asked to return to a Sugar-only system. This work is now formally supported by Plan Ceibal, which has started to use Dextrose in their schools. It is good to see this much attention being given to activity development and Spanish-language documentation, and to close feedback loops with teachers who use the latest tools every week with their students.

My name is Reyna Flores. I teach a combination of multigrade grades third through sixth at the little school Miguel Larreynaga in Tipitapa. The same activity microformat is used for specifying activity groups.

It's easy for motivated individuals to create and share their own activity groups; we list all the ones we know about on the activity groups page.

Lists of subscribed activity groups are kept in a simple one-line-per-url file format. WebActivity' is installed. This allows you to provide different versions of the activity group if some of your activities are not compatible with older or newer releases.

The urls in the group files point to html-pages. These pages are expected to contain info on one or more activities in a specific form, as per the output of this pyton function:. It doesn't matter how, or where on the page you put this.

You can happily intermingle it with other html code. Of course make sure the link in the olpc-activity-url span is valid. At OLE Nepal we automatically generate a page from the activities in a certain folder on a schoolserver, with the help of a cron-job ; which is a wrapper for a python script.

About 12 days ago I ran olpc-update , my first update since I G1G1'd. As warned in the Update. I tried several times pressing various keys during reboot, and every time I just booted back into my bare Sugar. That's unfortunate, since I improved the doc on many wiki pages for Update. So instead I ran "Bert's script" to install a useful set of activities. That seemed to work fine. It's confusing that Update.

Meanwhile the release notes and other pages now list "update. And yet more new stuff is coming in Update. I'm not criticizing the OLPC developers, they're busy making better software and coordinating releases for country deployments. It definitely could be cleaner. Activity or whatever it was called. Then I restarted back into and both offending progs were missing from the Activities bar.

PS — I have no idea if booting into the old OS helped anything, but it was interesting to see new-build Activities in the old build toolbar, but NOT vice versa. Anyone know why that happens?
