But these are weirdly named file at least to me. Dont know what these files are. These files may be system restore point files but i'm not sure. I'm scared to delete the files in case, this makes the system crash. Has anyone got any idea about what could be the content of the folder and whether it is safe to delete the files. Any help is greatly appreciated. Regards RK. Join our community to see this answer!

Hi i have a windows server with a very full c: drive on investigation its the system volume information folder thats hogging all the spare drive space. Each time you turn on your computer, Windows keeps track of the way your computer starts and which programs you commonly open. Windows saves this information as a number of small files in the prefetch folder.
The next time you turn on your computer, Windows refers to these files to help speed the start process. The prefetch folder is a subfolder of the Windows system folder. The prefetch folder is self-maintaining, and there's no need to delete it or empty its contents.
If you empty the folder, Windows and your programs will take longer to open the next time you turn on your computer. Log in. DIY Projects. Windows Server Study now. See answer 1. Best Answer.
